A New Mexico woman allegedly stole a car with two children inside on July 4 in Hobbs, New Mexico.
The Hobbs Police Department reported that a woman parked her white Hyundai Santa Fe in front of a store and when she returned, an unknown woman pushed her and got into the vehicle, driving off.
Video from a traffic camera shows the mother trying to stop the theft by climbing on the hood of the car, but was unable to stop the other woman.
The woman’s 6-year-old daughter and 11-month-old son were in the car.

When officers found the car, they found the suspect had left the 6-year-old at an intersection before trying to run from police, officials said.
The suspect, who was identified as Regina Castillo, then abandoned the car and began running from officers.
Castillo was arrested after he was found hiding behind a pickup truck in a residential area.
In addition to the charges Castillo will face in connection with the carjacking, she had three active warrants for her arrest, including failure to appear on charges of concealing identity, shoplifting and failure to appear on traffic violations, according to police.

After the incident, Castillo was charged with unlawful taking of a motor vehicle, aggravated fleeing a law enforcement officer, two counts of child abuse, resisting/eluding or obstructing an officer and three counts of failure to appear.

Castillo was previously charged with battery on a household member, two counts of resisting/eluding or obstructing an officer, two counts of shoplifting, forgery, four counts of failure to appear and one count of concealment of identity.
The children were reunited with their mother after being treated by EMS.
