Dell’s new XPS 13 Plus is now available for $ 1299

Dell has announced that the bold XPS 13 Plus, which debuts at CES 2022, is now available for purchase. It starts at $ 1,299 and until Dell specifies the exact specifications for this configuration, it will likely receive the lowest specifications listed in a specification sheet shared by the company. These include a 13.4-inch 1920 x 1200 16:10 aspect ratio display with 500 nits of peak brightness, a 12-generation Intel Core i5-1240P processor (28W, 12-core, 4.4GHz boost clock), 8GB RAM LPDDR0 at clocked0 MHz and 256GB SSD.

Each model includes a 60W USB-C AC adapter and features two Thunderbolt 4 ports (but no headphone jack), a Windows Hello 720p webcam, and a fingerprint reader built into the power button.

There will also be a developer edition that will ship with Ubuntu 20.04

As we noted at CES, this new version of the XPS 13 has a more futuristic-looking design than the standard Dell model. The most notable differences include a number of backlit function keys, similar to the Plus Touch Bar, as well as a keyboard that sits flush with the chassis. Finally, there is the new trackpad, which is invisible to the eye, but occupies a similar (if not slightly larger) amount of real estate in the middle of the glass-covered wrist stand. And instead of physically clicking, the trackpad’s hardware emulates clicking with tactile feedback, like Apple’s latest laptops.

It certainly looks good, but we’ll have to see in the full review whether the new keyboard and trackpad are actually pleasant to use. Dell

Although Dell has not shared pricing information for other configurations, you will be able to upgrade the XPS 13 Plus at the time of purchase with a 1080p touchscreen (default is touchless) or a 4K touchscreen. The high-end display option is a 3.5K (3456 x 2160) Gorilla Glass 7 coated OLED touchscreen with 100% coverage of the DCI-P3 color gamut.

In terms of processing power, Dell can reach the 12th generation Intel Core i7-1280P with 14 cores, as well as 32 GB of DDR5 RAM and up to 2TB PCIe 4.0 SSD storage. Oh, and one last thing: there will be an XPS 13 Plus developer edition that will ship with Ubuntu 20.04 and will cost $ 1,249.99.

We expect to try the XPS 13 Plus soon. As my colleague Monica Chin wrote in her practical paper in January, we are cautiously optimistic that all these aesthetic changes will not prevent it from being a good machine. But watch out for the full review to find out.
