Live – firefighters deal with a huge fire on a farm in North Devon

Fire crews from all over Devon rushed to the scene of an uncontrolled barn fire at a farm in Fishley Barton near Umberley tonight. The fire started in a caravan on a farm and quickly spread to a barn containing potentially hazardous materials.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue crews remain on the scene this morning (April 16) to deal with the blaze. As a result, the nearby A377 will remain closed at least until noon, according to Devon County Council.

Several firefighters, including Barnstaple, Exeter’s Danes Castle and South Molton, sent crews to the scene. A spokesman for the fire department said no one was injured.

The spokesman added that the barn where the fire started contained many caravans, machines and cylinders. The barn reportedly suffered “100 percent damage”.
