Have you seen the full “Pink Moon”?

The first full moon in the spring of 2022 in the northern hemisphere also marked the middle of Ramadan 2022 and occurred the day before Easter 2022 – both lunar festivals – but its celestial significance is much deeper than that.

Best seen as dusk on Saturday, April 16, 2022, the Pink Moon was depicted around the world, shrouded in dim orange and yellow light as it appeared on the eastern horizon.

The date of the full “pink moon” meant that Easter began the night before, Friday, April 15, 2022.

It always begins on the evening before the first full moon after the equinox, which this year was on March 20.

Similarly, the Pink Moon also determines the date of Easter, which always occurs on the first Sunday after the first full moon after the equinox. This year it is today, Sunday, April 17, 2022.

So you could call the full moon of April “Easter Pink Moon”, an Easter meaning associated with Easter and the Jewish Passover.

The “Pink Moon” is so named because of the appearance of wild terrestrial phlox in the spring.

It is a name associated with Native American tribes, but there are also the less commonly used names “Emerging Grass Moon”, “Rising Moon”, “Fish Moon” and “Rabbit Moon”. In the United Kingdom, the full moon in April is called the “Moon of the Eggs”.

In exactly two weeks, the Moon will pass through the Sun to cause the first solar eclipse in 2022.

A maximum of 54% of the Sun will be eclipsed by the Moon during a special “eclipse of the sunset”, as seen from parts of Antarctica and western South America just before sunset on Saturday, April 30, 2022.

The next full moon is the full “Flower Moon”, which will take place on Monday, May 16, 2022.

This will also be a total lunar eclipse “Blood Moon”. On Sunday, May 15, and Monday, May 16, 2022, the full “Color Moon” will turn a spectacular reddish color in 84 minutes and will be best seen in North and South America.

I wish you clear skies and wide eyes.
