Armed thieves reportedly stopped mountain bikers in Auckland Hills and targeted their bicycles.
Auckland police have so far responded to three armed robberies in the past month, with the East Bay Regional Park Police Department saying it had responded to an additional incident.
Louise Spier told SFGate she rode her bike to Auckland Hills last month when she was confronted by armed thieves who told her to give up her bike while a gun was pointed at her face. Louisa Spier said in the SFGate article: “I felt super scared and great with a broken heart. I love Auckland, I love living in Auckland and I have lived here for more than 30 years. It made me feel so sad.
“I said good morning, but at that moment I saw that they were completely covered, hats with fringes, masks all the way to the eyes. The one closest to me had a hand behind his back.
Two days after the incident, two riders were inside a car parked near trails in Joaquin Miller Park, while two thieves stole a mountain bike from the car, and when a rider came out, a gun was aimed at his face. On April 6, two more robberies were committed in a car that stopped next to two riders and demanded their motorcycles. That same day, the East Bay Regional Park Police Department responded to another robbery believed to be linked to three other incidents being investigated by Auckland police.
Auckland Police said: “The department remains vigilant of the many incidents in Auckland and urges you to be aware of your surroundings at all times. Do not be distracted by your electronic devices. Do not resist. The property can be replaced. ”
