PS Plus members will have the opportunity to upgrade to Extra, Premium

Sony has done such a bad job of clarifying the details of its new PS Plus levels that it shouldn’t actually be a title, but we guess it’s worth pointing out. With the new service, which will launch on May 23 in parts of Asia, the owner of the platform begins sending emails to some of its customers abroad. The Philippine website One More Game shared the said correspondence, which includes new information.

For starters, as expected, if you’re already a PS Plus subscriber, you don’t need to do anything. You will automatically switch to PS Plus Essential – the organization’s equivalent subscription plan – and your scheduled subscription period will remain the same. You will continue to enjoy the “same benefits” and there will be no changes in price or payment dates. Things will just go on as usual.

However, you will be able to upgrade to PS Plus Extra or PS Plus Premium at any time. “To do this, you will have to pay the difference between your current plan and the new plan, adjusted for the remaining time of your subscription,” the email explains. In other words, if you have six months of PS Plus service left, then you will be able to upgrade to one of the higher levels for the rest of your plan by paying the difference.

It is unclear whether those who have been subscribing for years will potentially have to pay for several years at a time, but Sony’s wording certainly suggests the same. Of course, there are still workloads that the company needs to clarify here, including the actual range of games – and whether retro titles like the PS1 Classics will include any quality of life updates. As the service is coming soon, it cannot keep this information secret for a long time.
