The upper part of the weapon – which weighs almost 20 kg (45 pounds), including 2.8 kg (6.2 pounds) high-explosive warhead – tilts the threat at an angle of 30 degrees.
The control unit compares sounds and vibrations with a pre-programmed list of potential targets. If the unit decides to attack, it throws a starting charge when the vehicle is 50 m (164 ft) away.
About two seconds later, at an altitude of about 30 meters (98 feet), the warhead radar and infrared scanner scan the ground to find the target.
Then a metal plug, usually made of copper, explodes at extreme speed towards the tank. This explosive projectile moves so fast that it can pierce 70 mm (2.75 inches) of the tank’s traditional steel armor and will tear the thin plates at the top of the tower or the rear decks of the vehicle.
It is not known whether Ukrainian tanks have been destroyed by the mine so far.
