Weapons, drugs seized in traffic stop

A man from Belleville is facing numerous charges after an investigation into firearms and drugs in Trent Hills.

Shortly before 3 a.m. Thursday, the Northumberland OPP stopped traffic after observing a violation of the Highway Traffic Act.

As a result of the investigation, the police officer found a loaded pistol and stun gun, as well as something that looked like drugs, including cocaine, cannabis and methamphetamine pills.

Fifty-year-old Wade Smart has been charged with numerous crimes.

He was detained on bail on Thursday.
