May 1 (Reuters) – Russia is likely to have a strong political and economic impact on Ukraine’s southern Kherson region in the long run after rejecting its return to Ukrainian control and initiating the changeover to the ruble, Britain said.
“After the takeover of … Kherson in early March, Russia tried to legitimize its control over the city and surrounding areas by installing a pro-Russian administration,” the defense ministry said in a Twitter newsletter on Sunday.
Russia’s continued control over the region and transport links will benefit its ability to sustain progress north and west and improve its security controls over nearby Crimea, the update added.
