A robber who targeted elderly and weak women was poured boiling water on him in prison while he waited to be convicted of his latest crime.
Dean Kenyon is now “in constant and searing pain” after the horrific attack. It happened while he was in custody for the January 12 robbery that left his 79-year-old victim with lifelong injuries.
The 35-year-old man grabbed the woman’s handbag, causing her to fall back and break her thigh, the court heard. While in prison, he poured boiling water on his legs and arms, as a result of which he underwent five skin graft surgeries.

In October 2020, he invaded a woman with arthritis in a shop window before grabbing her bag while she was walking on Boussfield Lane in Stockton. He approached her from behind and pushed her into the barber shop window before grabbing her purse,
Her bank cards were later restored by Kenyon, but valuable photos of her parents were never found. The woman was traumatized by the attack and too scared to leave her home.
He was living at Hartington Road in Stockton at the time and had 13 previous convictions, mostly for acquisition crimes. He was in prison for three years and four weeks.
On Friday, Kenyon of Parkside Crescent, Siam, appeared in Durham court through a HMP Durham liaison to be convicted of robbery. He pleaded guilty to the charges at a previous hearing.
Chris Morrison, defending himself, said: “The level of remorse in this matter is obvious. When the sober realization of what he had done to this vulnerable lady overshadowed him, he was humiliated and is humiliated to this day.”
He said Kenyon committed the robbery to “get money for drugs” and said he was the victim of an attack while in custody. He said: “He had poured boiling water on his hands and feet, which resulted in grafts on the skin of his hands and feet.
“He has undergone five skin graft surgeries and his mobility will be affected by them. He is currently severely anesthetized and in constant and burning pain.”
Convicting Kenyon, Judge James Adkin, the Durham record holder, sentenced him to six years in prison with a three-year extended license.
