Mother “felt suicidal” after being fired by NHS for “act of kindness”

A Midlands mother is left desperate after losing her job at the NHS for what she insists is an “act of kindness”. Lynn Kings was fired from the hospital where she worked after “unauthorized access” to the system to find a patient.

The 53-year-old woman, a former MDT coordinator for cancer in gynecology, took a gift for a new baby to her son’s ex-girlfriend after finding out which ward she was in. She is now in arrears and “can’t afford to pay” her bills after she was fired for violating the rules on February 9th.

She is currently trying to appeal the decision in a desperate attempt to get her job back, BirminghamLive reports. “I raised my hands for what I did, I apologized. My heart was in front of my head. It really was an act of kindness, “said Ms Kings, who has worked for the NHS for 15 years.

“I was told she was pregnant with a new partner, which I was so happy about (for her). She was like a daughter to me. All I did was look at which ward she was in, went and bought her a present from the children’s store, and I just walked in.

“I went to the ward, I asked the ward employee, is this the way it is, is there a chance for me to come in and give it to her?” The ward officer said yes. I knocked on the door and said can I come in? She? I said yes, I told her, “I’m really happy for you. I didn’t touch the baby, I just told her how beautiful the baby is. “

A week after the incident, she was called and asked about the visit. A complaint was lodged and she was told by the Birmingham Women’s Hospital that she needed to be examined.

“I was never fired, they expected me to work until the evening and then they fired me,” she added. “I went on appeal, but they keep confusing me with dates. I just feel like I’ve been pulled out. I just think I was really unfairly fired and I feel like I’ve been kicked in the teeth.”

Ms. Kings received a serious pay cut when she was instead forced to take a job as a receptionist in GP surgery. She said: “I’m overdue, I can’t afford to pay. They left me high and dry. I feel really disappointed.”

The mother also had to cancel a “holiday of life” with her husband, as she could not afford the payments. “I worked during the pandemic, it was terrible,” she said.

“I have been working for the National Health Service for 15 years and then they essentially kicked me in the face. I felt suicidal, I took sleeping pills, I took antidepressants. It was a nightmare, it ruined my life. “

A Trust spokesman said: “The confidentiality of our patients and their health records is paramount. We will always investigate all possible breaches of this policy and act in accordance with our trust procedures to protect the patients we care for. To maintain patient confidentiality, we cannot comment on the specifics of this case. “
