Last week, the Florida State Senate voted to take away The Walt Disney Co. from a 55-year-old special area that allowed Walt Disney World to largely self-manage its property in the theme park. Gov. Ron DeSantis asked lawmakers to take the step after Disney said it opposed the state’s recently passed parental rights bill, which opponents called “don’t say gay.” Republicans in the House are also expected to approve the move. It will enter into force on June 1, 2023.

DeSantis did not think about it, because according to Oliver, the removal of Disney may be contrary to Florida law – which requires the county to assume the county’s debt when it is dissolved. Disney’s Orange and Oceola counties will inherit more than $ 1 billion in debt.
