A statement from the Ministry of Health said BC PharmaCare was introducing new or expanded coverage for a number of drugs from the end of last year.
The drugs treat conditions including ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease, very low blood sugar, migraines, low white blood cell counts, multiple sclerosis and heart failure.
The ministry says the new treatment, covered for colitis or Crohn’s disease, could be given to the patient instead of requiring a visit to a clinic, while a nasal spray is now available to treat low blood sugar or hypoglycaemia, eliminating regular injections of thousands. this condition.
The ministry estimates that at least 10,000 migraine patients will benefit from adding another drug to the official list of drugs, and the same number of patients with a specific type of heart failure will qualify for a drug that drastically reduces hospitalizations and deaths.
PharmaCare’s scope has also been expanded to include what the ministry says is a long-acting, highly effective birth control drug that is implanted in a patient’s upper arm as an alternative, a cheap option for birth control pills or intrauterine devices.
