A BNSF railroad train caught fire after it partially derailed around 1 a.m. Sunday morning near Burlington, North Dakota, about 15 miles south of Minot Air Force Base.
Several boxes carrying paper products and frozen food caught fire. Some wagons had hazardous materials on board, but they did not derail and were pulled from the fire, BNSF Railway reported.

Thick black puffs of smoke could be seen from the cars that derailed for several hours after the crash.

Fire crews from the Minot, Burlington, and Minot Rural Air Force Bases responded to the scene, as did the North Dakota Highway Patrol.

Some nearby homes were evacuated as a precautionary measure, according to Burlington Fire Chief Carter Lasman.
