The head of the Alabama prison, who allegedly hid with a suspect in the murder, had a “special relationship” with the prisoner, police said on Tuesday.
Vicki White, Lauderdale County Assistant Correctional Assistant, had a pleasant affair with inmate Casey Cole White during her shift at the village jail and at one point developed a so-called “special relationship,” Lauderdale County Sheriff said.
“Investigators received information from Lauderdale County Detention Center over the weekend that there was a special relationship between Director White and inmate Casey White,” the agency said.
“This connection has already been confirmed by our investigation from independent sources and means.”
The sheriff’s office declined to say what “special relationship” meant, but on Monday announced an arrest warrant for Vicki White to allow or facilitate a first-degree escape.

“We know that she was involved, whether she did it voluntarily or if she was forced, threatened in some way, to take part in the case, I’m not very sure. We know for sure that she was involved, “said Sheriff Rick Singleton at a news conference.
On Friday morning, Vicki White told officers she was leading the detainees for a mental health assessment in the district court and had not been questioned because her primary duty was to transport inmates, Singleton said.
When the cops found out they were missing, they found no such meeting at the courthouse, and the two made no effort to go to the building, instead abandoning their car in the parking lot of a nearby mall and disappearing.

The saga is reminiscent of the escape of David Sweet and Richard Matt in 2015 from the Clinton Correctional Facility in Danemore, New York, after the men became romantically involved with Joyce Tilly Mitchell, a prison guard, and persuaded her to help them escape.
The U.S. Marshall Service has offered a $ 10,000 reward for any information leading to the capture of Casey White.
“We both consider them dangerous and in all likelihood they are both armed,” US Marshal Marty Keeley told a news conference.

The inmate is charged with two counts of murder in September 2020 after allegedly stabbing 58-year-old Connie Ridgeway to death, officials said.
He has already served a 75-year sentence for a crime in 2015 in which he shot a man and a dog and kept five other people at gunpoint, the WBRC reported.
Singleton told CNN that Vicki White was a “model” employee and her colleagues were “devastated” by her alleged betrayal.

“I guess we’re trying to keep the last drop of hope that maybe for some reason she was threatened and forced to do so, but you will absolutely feel betrayed,” Singleton told the paper.
“All her colleagues are ruined. We’ve never had a situation like this with Vicki White. She was a model employee. “
