A man’s body was found by fire crews after a “serious” fire ravaged an apartment.
Emergency services were called to a fire at Lawrence Deacon Court, St Anne Street, Birkenhead, around 8:45 p.m. on Monday, May 2nd. Three fire engines were present at the scene and firefighters entered the property wearing a respirator.
After extinguishing the fire with hose reels, crews confirmed that they had found the body of a man in the property. The man was pronounced dead on the spot.

Police have confirmed that his relatives have been notified and an examination will now be carried out to determine the cause of death. Merseyside Police have launched a joint investigation into the fire with the Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service.
A Merseyside police spokesman said: “Emergency services were called for a fire at a property in Birkenhead last night, Monday, May 2. Police were called around 9 p.m. in an apartment in Lawrence Deacon Court on St. Anne Street.
“The Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service (MFRS) put out the fire before finding the body of a man in the property. The man was pronounced dead shortly afterwards. His relatives are informed.
“An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death. A joint investigation is underway with the IFRS to determine the cause of the fire.
