After a day of political unrest, President Biden had a phrase about forces he believes are responsible for the conservative Supreme Court, which is ready to overturn Rowe v. Wade’s decision to legalize abortion. The forces that deter the economy from a full recovery. The forces that on Tuesday turned JD Vance into the GOP, a candidate for the US Senate in Ohio.
The MAGA Crowd.
There was even an ultra-MAGA mob, perhaps a more extreme manifestation of former President Donald Trump’s campaign slogan, “Make America Great Again.” As for the Democrats, this is the official slogan of the Republican Party.
Biden used the phrase several times during his remarks on the economy on Wednesday. He had used it once before, at a fundraiser in Denver last month, but only in passing. This time the use seemed more deliberate, coming on a day when the political divisions of the nation seemed as emphatic as ever.
It was through the appointment of three Supreme Court justices that Trump brought the nation to the brink of a world after Rowe, in which women in conservative states are likely to be prevented from having abortions. Always threatened, the 1973 decision survives. If the arguments in the Supreme Court’s expired draft opinion are upheld, states will decide for themselves whether to grant any abortion rights.

Rowe’s embarrassment was accompanied by fears of what might follow. “Your right to birth control is next,” Sen. Sherod Brown of the Ohio Democrat wrote on Twitter. “Your right to marry someone you love is next. All your rights to make your own decisions about how and when to raise your family are at stake. ”
Another U.S. Sen. Brown in Ohio may soon be Vance, who said during the campaign that Biden wanted to start a war with Russia over “transgender rights.” One day, Vance in Washington may be joined by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who is expected to run for president in 2024. The young DeSantis, also an ardent pro-Trump, has launched a series of cultural wars, most recently against LGBTQ teachers. who are his supporters called “thunderbolts”.
The story continues
Once a Conservative in the heart of the country, famous by many liberals for his Hillbilly Elegy memoirs, Vance won Trump’s approval and surpassed several other pro-Trump conservatives in the race that culminated in Tuesday’s victory.
Vance’s easy victory for Democrats is a preview of Washington, in which Republicans control the Senate, allowing them to appoint more conservative judges and the House, thus blocking any bills Biden may want to pass.

“Republicans MAGA,” Biden said Wednesday, repeating the phrase several times. “I don’t want to mispronounce it,” he joked.
The venue Vance will be looking for in November is currently held by Sen. Rob Portman, a moderate Republican who helped design the infrastructure deal last spring. On Tuesday night, Portman backed Vance, who recently accused President Biden of allowing fentanyl trafficking in Republican communities – in other words, not a likely beacon of the bipartisan position Biden still craves.
The new mob is more assertive, unwilling to compromise. And not to go anywhere, both sides agreed on Wednesday morning. Other approvals Trump has made are likely to be much worse than Vance’s. But both conservatives and progressives see the benefit in claiming that the party belongs to Trump anyway.

“MAGA is alive and well,” the son of former President Donald Trump Jr. wrote on social media, summarizing the truth that Democrats have also learned. If ever there was a time when the Republican Party would have gone beyond Trump and worked with Biden, that moment is over.
Asked by Yahoo News earlier this year about working with Republicans, the president expressed irritation. “I honestly don’t know what they are for,” he admitted. Four months later, the president concluded that the party remained with Trump – and will likely continue for many years to come if Vance’s victory in the primary is a sign.
After defeating Trump in 2020, Biden estimates he can defeat him again in 2022, when the party he leads seeks to retain control of Congress. The new argument seems to be an acknowledgment that nothing else has helped convince voters that the president is doing what he promised. The economy continues to recover from a pandemic, but voters appear desperate. It could be inflation, or the war in Ukraine, or a new version of the coronavirus on the way.
In any case, Democrats are ready to pay for this discontent after the November midterm elections, in which Republicans are expected to succeed in both the House of Representatives and the Senate.

The president has sought to deflect blame for a potential review of the types of attacks he and other Democrats will make as interim mandates approach. “Let me tell you about this ultra-MAGA agenda. “It’s extreme, like most things from MAGA,” he said. The White House Deputy Spokesman shared a cable news clip accusing the president.
The rhetorical choice had a special resonance on Wednesday morning. The revelation that abortion may soon become illegal in many parts of the United States sparked Democrat sentiment earlier in the week.
“This is much more than an abortion,” Biden said on Wednesday, outlining a vision of society that is completely different from what he and others say he describes in the upcoming Supreme Court ruling.
What are the next things to be attacked? Biden wondered on Wednesday. “Because this MAGA mob is really the most extreme political organization in recent American history.

There were protests the night before in front of the Supreme Court, where barricades were quickly erected, and across the country. However, the party still doesn’t know how to use that energy in a way that will be sustainable – or at least sustainable until November – but knows that sharpening the contrast with Republicans will help.
The strategy has been under development for some time. “Voters can easily believe that the country is not where they hoped, but they also believe that they do not want to hand it over to Marjorie Taylor Green on the 22nd and Trump on the 24th,” a Biden adviser told CNN last month.
On Wednesday, Biden embraced the effort, branding all Republicans with the MAGA label, which they do not accept equally. The distinction was both political and ideological. This is an award that the president believes remains favorable to his party.
“I don’t want to hear Republicans talk about deficits and their ultra-MAGA program. I want to hear about justice, “Biden said. “I want to hear about decency. I want to hear how I help ordinary people. ”
