The most successful danger in Canada! the contestant added to her winning streak on Tuesday, ending her 21st victory by correctly responding to clues to her country’s national anthem.
Matea Roach, who holds the record for the longest winning streak of any Canadian in the quiz, entered the Final Jeopardy with $ 24,600 after beating the race in the previous round with 17 correct answers and a strategic bet of $ 2,000 for a daily double.
Her competitors, Enver Casimir of California and Angela Kisner of Ohio, are $ 9,800 and $ 600, respectively.
Even with a serious lead, the 23-year-old Roach must have been even more confident after hearing the latest clue: “Terre de nos aïeux follows the title in the French version of this anthem.”
Before revealing Roach’s correct answer to “O Canada”, host Ken Jennings said with a smile that the evidence for Final Jeopardy was written weeks or months ahead of time and was chosen at random.
“So we never know when they will land,” he said. “But I have to think that Matea may know some of O Canada’s lyrics.”
Enver, who bet $ 8,000, also gave the right answer. He finished the game with $ 17,800, but did not reach Roach, whose $ 4,999 bet brought her $ 29,599. Kisner, who answered incorrectly, was left with $ 600.
In his winning streak, Roach won $ 506,184 US.
Fifth longest series
After now pushing Julia Collins out of fifth place for the longest Jeopardy! after a winning streak, Roach will have to reach 32 wins to catch up with fourth-place winner James Holzhauer.
Roach is still far from overtaking the current Jeopardy! host Ken Jennings, who won 74 consecutive games in 2004 and amassed $ 2,520,700 in winnings for that series alone.
Many places in Canada insist on claiming that Roach is her own while she makes national titles.
Speaking to the Canadian Press in April, Roach said he considered Nova Scotia home, but was also deeply attached to Toronto, the city where he moved to a university degree in political science and research on sexual diversity.
