Donna Hillsinger is running for mayor

SooToday received the following statement from Donna Hillsinger, announcing her intention to run for mayor in the upcoming municipal elections.

Currently serving as City Councilor for Ward 3, Hillsinger is the third person to throw his hat into the mayoral ring, the others being Hillsinger’s colleague, District 3 Councilor Matthew Shoemaker, and former District 6 Councilor Ozzy Grandinetti.

Donna Hillsinger’s full statement is below:

I am running for mayor of Sault Ste. Marie.

Sault Ste. Marie has made so much progress in the last few years. To maintain this momentum, we must continue to work together. We need the right leadership from the mayor’s office.

This leadership means taking good care of the community and the people we love, being willing to be brave and stand up for Sault. This is the approach that has guided my efforts as an advisor in District 3 of 2018. I am now asking for your support so that I can use this experience as your mayor.

My experience in business, in my volunteer work and in politics made me ready to lead. I have a work ethic to see things and do what it takes to generate growth in a smart and creative way. These experiences have taught me that building something means being part of the community we live in and giving back to it.

I am determined to see how to develop Sault in a city that is a magnet for new residents, investment and growth. A city where people want to live because we have opportunities and a wonderful quality of life. A city where people want to invest because it’s a great place to do business. A city that people want to visit.

In the coming weeks and months, I look forward to sharing my vision for Sault Ste. Marie, to hear your hopes and aspirations for our city and what is most important to you.

This morning I will visit the town hall to make it official.
