Phoebe Bridgers revealed that she had an abortion last fall during a tour after a bomb report that the US Supreme Court would overturn Rowe against Wade next month.
The 27-year-old singer, who was born and raised in California, shared her experience on Instagram Stories on Tuesday in light of an expired draft opinion showing the repeal of a landmark 1973 decision that effectively legalized abortion in America.
“I had an abortion in October last year while on tour,” she wrote. “I went to Planned Parenthood, where they gave me the abortion pill. It was easy. Everyone deserves such access.

Bridgers has included a link to a “big list of places you can donate right now” to entertain abortions in states where access to the procedure is already restricted.
On Monday night, the four-time Grammy nominee was at the Met Gala with her boyfriend, actor Paul Mescal. The couple sparked dating rumors in August 2020 and formalized their Instagram link in December 2021.
They were at the star-studded event at the Metropolitan Museum of Art when Politico released the bombing draft opinion.
Chief Justice John Roberts confirmed the authenticity of the draft, but added that it did not represent the “final decision” of any of the members of the court.
Bridgers explained that she had an abortion in October while on tour (pictured last month), saying she went to Planned Parenthood and received an abortion pill.
Bridger shared his story in response to an expired draft opinion written by Judge Samuel Alito, which states that the US Supreme Court is ready to overturn Rowe v. Wade next month
In a leaked document, Conservative Judge Samuel Alito wrote that Rowe v. Wade, the Supreme Court’s ruling that excessive state regulation of abortion is unconstitutional, was “extremely wrong from the start” and “should be repealed.”
Alito, who was nominated in court in 2006 by George W. Bush, said that “Rowe’s reasoning is extremely weak and the decision has harmful consequences.”
“Far from reaching a national settlement on the abortion issue, Rowe and Casey have sparked a debate and deepened divisions,” he wrote.
Politico reported that in addition to Alito, four other judges have voted in favor of repealing the law: Clarence Thomas, Neil Gorsuch, Brett Cavanaugh and Amy Connie Barrett, all of whom have been nominated by Republican presidents.

The couple sparked rumors of dating in August 2020 and made their Instagram connection official in December 2021.
If the decision is overturned by the Conservative-dominated Republican-majority court, which will have a 6-3 majority, it will give states the power to decide whether to ban abortion.
The Guttmacher Institute, a selection research group, said 26 states were “certain or likely” to ban abortions if Rowe v. Wade were repealed.
Abortion rights have been threatened in recent months as Republican-led states tighten rules, with some seeking to ban all abortions after six weeks before many women even find out they are pregnant.
In March, Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey signed a bill banning abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy. Idaho Gov. Brad Little, meanwhile, has signed a six-week abortion ban that allows fetal family members to sue providers who perform abortions after that time, similar to a law in Texas passed last year.
In October, after Texas Gov. Greg Abbott signed an abortion ban bill six weeks later, she released a cover of Be Burnham’s “That Funny Feeling” to raise money for abortion.

As in the United States, abortion can be performed up to about 24 weeks of pregnancy, but the exact period varies from state to state.
Bridgers’ publication of her abortion is not the first time she has spoken out about the importance of abortion rights.
In October, after Texas Gov. Greg Abbott signed an abortion ban bill six weeks later, she released a cover of Bo Burnham’s “That Funny Feeling” and sold it on the Bandcamp app to raise money for Texas abortion funds.
“This is for Greg Abbott,” she wrote on Instagram when announcing the release of the song.

The 45-year-old in Washington shared a post about what people can do to fight the potential solution, writing in the caption: “The news about SCOTUS is so disturbing. Please take care of yourself. Take care of each other. And most importantly, ACT.
“It’s horrible. The language in this draft opinion is outrageous and attacks women’s rights over our own bodies. “Rowe’s repeal of Wade has dangerous consequences even outside of abortion rights,” Moore, 59, wrote in her Instagram Stories post. “Vote accordingly and demand more from your chosen employees.”
Collins, 33, added: “It’s heartbreaking and so on. Sharing some resources on what this can mean for women’s rights and how to access abortion and other reproductive care safely.
