I liked Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 3 when I reviewed it last year, but its battery life was awful compared to its flagship counterparts without folding. Even with its built-in fast charging capabilities, the Z Flip 3’s battery is one of the smallest you can get in a premium phone.
The good news is that there is a change in the horizon, at least according to several reports from trusted publishers. Coming to us via 9to5Google, a Dutch site called GalaxyClub announced that the next generation Z Flip 4 will have a 3400 mAh battery instead of 3300 mAh.
Yes, the impact is rough, but it’s better than nothing and shows Samsung’s thinking on how to increase battery life while keeping your foldable phone in your pocket. Z Flip 4 will technically have two batteries to help adjust the opening and closing mechanism of this particular model. But compared to the current flagship harvest, most of which have 5,000 mAh batteries, the estimated battery size of the Z Flip 4 is still very small.
The Z Flip 4 may also have a larger cover display, which will make these animated screensavers even more fun if the rumor is true. According to XDA developers and Ross Young, another prominent expiring and CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), the Z Flip 4 will start with at least a 2-inch roof screen, not the current 1.9-inch.
Young also leaked details about Samsung’s other foldable version, the Z Fold 4. In particular, he compared it to what he called the “foldable Google” – this is probably a reference to the foldable Pixel smartphone. Earlier, the rumor mill was buzzing about a foldable Pixel, but Young announced last year that Google had canceled it after realizing that it could not compete with Samsung’s offerings at the same price. It seems that a new, different folding Pixel may be being developed now.
“Z Fold 4 and Google foldable will have foldable displays of similar size,” Young tweeted, adding that Google’s cover screen could be 5.8 inches and offer a wider aspect ratio than Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 4 .
The Galaxy Z Flip 3 sold remarkably well for a flip phone and even surpassed 1 million units just two months after its launch. The third-generation model improved the shape of its predecessors and improved camera specifications. But there were some concerns about how people would take it, given that foldable phones aren’t entirely a common concept.
We do not know when Samsung plans to present its next batch of folding devices. We expect to hear more this summer, given that the last two generations of flip phones have had summer editions.
