In the days after the local elections, Conservative MPs will decide whether it is worth sticking to Boris Johnson given the poor results. Is he still a winner? And if not, is it a shame to try to defend it on the BBC? Midlands todayor whatever?

Local elections are simply distorted opinion polls. The question answered by voters is different from that of general elections, the people who vote are different (there is much lower voter turnout) and elections are held only in some areas.
