On Thursday, Lenovo introduced a series of laptops with different options and designs. Slim laptops, formerly known as the IdeaPad Slim, are a new range of clamshell designs that will compete in June with slim and lightweight construction, high-end components, high-resolution OLED displays and some unique textures.

The standout products are the 14.5-inch Slim 7i Pro X and Slim 7 Pro X – with an “i”, which means that it has an Intel processor. Lenovo launches the nickname “X” to introduce laptops designed for creators. In addition to offering a GPU for the RTX 3050 laptop (4GB GDDR6), Lenovo is also fine-tuning the hardware of the machines, a Lenovo spokesman told Ars Technica when we tested the laptops in person. Artificial intelligence software also helps manage battery performance and usage.
Lenovo will not disclose TDP numbers, but said that the Slim 7 / 7i Pro X has a higher TDP than non-Pro X versions (which in the US will only be available as 16-inch), especially if you get it with a special GPU for a laptop that has been rejected in non-Pro X versions.
The new laptops also have a 70 Wh battery compared to the 60 Whr of the non-X. Lenovo said the battery will last up to 12.5 hours when playing 1080p video with an Intel processor and 15.5 hours for the AMD version.
The laptops use the respective series of Intel and AMD processors aimed at the creators. The H-Series chips outperform the pyramid of Intel’s 12th generation mobile processor, and the Slim 7i Pro X reaches the i7-1200H with six Performance cores, or 2.3-4.7 GHz P-cores, 8 performance cores or E-cores (1.7 -2.3 GHz), 20 threads and 96 EUs.
Meanwhile, the AMD version of the laptop reaches the Ryzen 9 6900 HS Creator Edition, with eight cores, 16 threads and a base clock speed of 3.3 GHz, which can be increased to 4.9 GHz. It also has 12 GPU cores Radeon 680M graphics from AMD.

Lenovo also equips the creators’ machines with ultra-fast RAM. Intel machines support up to 32 GB of LPDDR5-6000 memory in two channels, while AMD’s version can reach 6400 MHz – as fast as LPDDR5.
Zoom / Laptops include 1080p webcams, start at 3.48 pounds and are thin to 0.63 inches.

After all, they are not as heavy as Lenovo’s ThinkPad laptops, which include laptops comparable to workstations, such as the 16-inch ThinkPad X1 Extreme. This laptop reaches octa-core i7-11850H, RTX 3070 (8GB) and DDR4-3200 RAM for about $ 2,800.
Pro X laptops give priority to resolution and speed over color coverage, although 100 percent sRGB is good for those who create for Windows, for example. The 3072 × 1920 screens have a high refresh rate of 120 Hz and Nvidia G-Sync Adaptive-Sync to combat screen tearing. The maximum brightness is 400 nits for the IPS panel.

The flagship of the Slim series, Slim 9i, has a higher starting price of 1800 dollars.
Much of that price comes from the machine’s 14-inch OLED touchscreen. You can get a high-contrast screen with a resolution of 3840 × 2400 (323.45 pixels per inch) at the standard 60 Hz or reduce to 2880 × 1800 (242.59 ppi) to a mark of up to 90 Hz. Anyway, the 16:10 screens are VESA DisplayHDR 500 True Black certified, which promises the deepest blacks and at least 500 nits of brightness.
The Slim 9i at least looks like a flagship, thanks to the touch of glass. Like a modern smartphone, the lid is covered with 3D glass. A Lenovo spokesman told us that the glass does not provide additional protection, but makes the laptop look more sleek. The glass also plays well with the rounded, shiny edges of the laptop’s deck. However, the glass case looked susceptible to fingerprints and we would not want to imagine the appearance of the laptop if you ever damage the glass.

The Slim 9i is only available with Intel processors, reaching the i7-1280P. The processor has four P-cores (2.1-4.7 GHz), eight E-cores (2.1-3.4 GHz) and 16 threads. Memory is slower than the aforementioned Pro X laptops, reaching a maximum of 32 GB LPDDR5-5600 via two channels.

You should be able to drain more battery life from the Slim 9i’s 75Whr battery compared to Pro X machines. Lenovo claims up to 15 hours of 1080p video playback.

Another advantage over so-called creative machines is audio; The Slim 9i has two 2 W speakers, plus a pair of 3 W subwoofers. If you want even more power and a similar design, consider Lenovo’s Yoga laptops, which include the same setting, plus a sound bar in the hinge.

As the name suggests, the Slim 7i Carbon uses a combination of magnesium alloy and carbon fiber in the lid. You will not find carbon fiber in the deck, as the magnesium alloy offers better heat management and lower costs. This design created a matte, soft finish with a delicate texture that helped me hold on. It also matches the premium feel of the ThinkPad X1 Carbon, which uses the same chassis materials.
The Slim 7i Carbon starts at 2.13 pounds and 0.58 inches.

The 13-inch Slim 7i Carbon is available with up to i7-1260P, 32GB LPDDR5-4800, 1TB SSD and 2560 × 1600 IPS panel at up to 90 Hz. Its 50 WHr is said to last up to 13.5 hours with 1080p video playback.

The Slim 7i Carbon will start at $ 1,300.
