Anita Dunn will return as a senior advisor
Today, President Biden announced that Karin Jean-Pierre has been promoted to assistant to the president and spokeswoman for the White House. Karin will take on the role of spokeswoman, replacing Jen Psaki, who will leave the White House on May 13.
President Biden’s statement: “I am proud to announce that Carin Jean-Pierre will be the next White House spokesman.
“Karin not only brings the experience, talent and integrity needed for this difficult job, but she will continue to lead the way in communicating the work of the Biden-Harris administration on behalf of the American people. Jill and I have known and respected Karin for a long time, and she will be a strong voice speaking for me and this administration.
“Jen Psaki has set the standard for restoring decency, respect and decency in the White House briefing room. I want to thank Jen for raising the bar, communicating directly and honestly with the American people, and maintaining a sense of humor as she does so. I thank Jen for her service to the country and wish her all the best as she moves forward.
The White House also announced the return of Anita Dunn as a senior adviser and assistant to the president. Dunn is rejoining White House staff from its communications and political consulting firm, SKDK, and will help advance the president’s policy and communication goals.
Karin Jean-Pierre, press secretary and assistant to the president
Karin Jean-Pierre is currently Deputy Chief Press Officer and Deputy Assistant to the President. Karin has been a longtime adviser to President Biden, serving senior communications and political roles in the Biden administration, the Biden campaign, and then Vice President Biden in the Obama administration.
Prior to her campaign role, she worked as a chief public relations officer for MoveOn.org and a political analyst at NBC and MSNBC. Jean-Pierre was the regional political director of the White House Office of Political Affairs during the Obama-Biden administration and as deputy director of the battlefield for President Obama’s 2012 re-election campaign. She was the Southeast Regional Political Director for President Obama’s 2008 campaign, deputy campaign manager for Martin O’Malley’s presidential campaign, campaign leader for the ACLU’s Reproductive Freedom Initiative, and deputy chief of staff and director of legislative and budgetary matters for two members of the New York City Council.
She previously worked at the Center for Community and Corporate Ethics, encouraging large companies to change their business practices, and is a published author. Born in Martinique and raised in New York, Jean-Pierre graduated from Columbia University.
Anita Dunn, senior adviser and assistant to the president
Anita Dunn is one of the best communication and political strategists in the country and is a close adviser to President Biden. She has recently served as a senior adviser to President Biden and is currently a partner and founding member of SKDK. She has decades of experience advising presidents and senior Democrats. She has served as President Obama’s chief strategist, senior campaign adviser and White House communications director. She also starred in Tom Dashl, Bill Bradley and Evan Bay.
As a senior adviser to President Biden, Anita advised on the overall strategy and communications of the administration, helping the president take steps and win legislative victories that helped boost the economy quickly after the pandemic. Prior to that, she worked as a senior advisor in the Biden-Harris campaign, advising on all aspects of the campaign. At SKDK, Anita has worked with progressive and advocacy campaigns, providing strategic advice to elected officials, political candidates, CEOs, non-profit organizations and corporations.
