Ontario Liberals say they will reintroduce 13th grade electives if elected.
Liberal leader Stephen Del Duca says it is part of a plan to help students cope with the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on their education.
He says allowing students to do 13th grade will give them the choice to spend more time in compulsory post-secondary education courses and take new classes in personal finance, civil law, mental health and well-being.
The Liberals also promise to hire another 1,000 mental health professionals for students and staff and an additional special education worker for each school.
They also propose hiring another 5,000 special education staff, expanding the student meal program offering free breakfast, ending streaming and removing EQAO’s standardized tests, and replacing it with a new assessment strategy.
Del Duca released other plans for its educational platform this week, including building 200 new schools and renovating another 4,500, hiring another 10,000 teachers and limiting class sizes to 20 for all classes.
