Deputy runs sunbathing
The Pinelas County Sheriff says a “big” investigation is under way after a deputy sunbathes on St. Pete Beach.
ST. PIT BEACH, Florida – The Pinelas County Sheriff’s Office is not answering questions about how one of her deputies was run over in the sun while driving a jeep on St. Pete Beach on Wednesday afternoon.
The MP ran over the 23-year-old woman, who is allegedly lying on her back on the sand.
This happened shortly after 1 pm behind 4450 Gulf Boulevard. The sheriff’s office said the 58-year-old deputy was driving a fully marked Chevrolet Tahoe when it happened.
The MP was parked and talking to pedestrians when he was sent to the 911 closing site.

The MP turned right from where he was parked and then ran over the sunbather.
According to investigators, the front tire on the driver’s side of the Tahoe ran through the woman’s right side and from the middle to the upper back. She was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries and was not happy to speak to reporters on Thursday.
A passer-by, who wished to remain anonymous, took pictures of a deputy standing over the woman as firefighters cared for the victim. In the background was the pink façade of the Don Cesar Hotel.

Visitors to the beach on Thursday said they saw the sheriff’s jeeps patrolling the beaches of Pinelas County on a regular basis.
The Pinelas County Sheriff has not answered FOX 13’s questions about whether to review policies to drive full-size SUVs on the sand.
The sheriff’s office also uses smaller ATVs on the beaches.
They declined to be interviewed on Thursday, citing an active and ongoing investigation by the Major Incident Investigation Team.
