President Putin apologized to Israel yesterday for his foreign minister’s remarks that Adolf Hitler had “Jewish blood.”
The Russian leader’s rare apology was made in a phone call to Prime Minister Naftali Bennett to congratulate Israel on the 74th anniversary of its independence.
The diplomatic crisis between the two countries began on Sunday, when Sergei Lavrov said in an interview with Italian television company Mediasat: “What if [Ukrainian President] Is he a Green Jew? The fact does not deny the Nazi elements in Ukraine. I believe that Hitler also had Jewish blood.
He added that “one of the worst anti-Semites is the Jews.”
