One year after announcing it will introduce iCloud Documents & Data in iCloud Drive, Apple has confirmed that it has completed the migration of the cloud-based service.
In May 2021, Apple announced that it wanted to reduce confusion and streamline its iCloud storage segments, including discontinuing Documents & Data and moving that data to iCloud Drive. Almost 12 months later, Apple confirmed that it had made the change.
Under iCloud Documents & Data, user files will be automatically synced between different applications and devices. This was similar to a service concept like iCloud Drive, but was considered separate.
In an update to Apple’s support page on Friday, reported by MacRumors, Apple told consumers that the legacy iCloud Documents & Data service has been “discontinued and replaced by iCloud Drive.” Accounts that have used the legacy service have already been migrated to iCloud Drive on behalf of the user.
While the migration has taken place, Apple adds that these same users will still need to enable iCloud Drive to be able to see their files if it is no longer activated in their account.
