During the night, one to three inches of rain fell in the region, while light to moderate rain continued. The National Meteorological Service extended the flood warning issued at night until 4 pm for the district and the surrounding counties.

“Flooding of rivers, streams, streams and other low-lying and flood-prone places is inevitable or happening. Expect areas with slow-moving or stagnant water, the weather service said.

In Montgomery County, emergency managers responded to a man trapped in high water in Brookville early Saturday morning. Many local streams and rivers are rising and will approach or exceed the flood stage.

In Fairfax County, straits at night pushed the Hard Trail at Wolf Trap over its shores, causing a flood on Browns Mill Road, which was closed. High waters covered both of Belway’s left lanes near the American Legion Bridge. Flood areas and Prosperity Ave have been reported. in Merrifield, which was closed, and on Wiehle Ave. in Reston.

A flood warning is also in effect for the Monocasey River near Frederick, Maryland, where the water level has risen above the minor flood.

Although the heaviest rainfall has already occurred, another 0.5 to 1.0 inch of rain is possible this afternoon, with the highest amounts in our northern regions. Remember not to try to drive through a flooded road, as the water level can be difficult to judge. Turn around.

On Friday, Dulles set a record for May 6 with 1.18 inches and received 1.68 inches by Saturday morning. Reagan National and BWI Marshall registered 1.88 and 1.86 inches for the event.

Somewhat subjective assessment of the time of day for a scale from 0 to 10.

3/10: Much like Friday, but cooler. Not great for early May.

  • today: Periods of rain. Maximum values: from the middle to over 50.
  • Tonight: Showers are dwindling. Low levels: Low until the mid 40’s.
  • tomorrow: Morning rains are possible, then mostly cloudy. Maximum values: mid 50’s.

We are going through the worst part of this storm system. Cool conditions are at their peak this weekend, with daily temperatures up to 20 or more degrees below normal. The rain should stop for Mother’s Day, but it won’t feel like the beginning of May at all. I’m already thinking about the return of the sun early next week. It will be sweet.

Today (Saturday): It is humid and cool for the time of year. We are more and more in the cool air from this storm, so the rainfall will probably not be as intense as yesterday. However, some spots can take another half inch or an inch if it rains constantly enough. Temperatures do not fluctuate much during the day, as the maximum is probably close to midnight last night. Daily readings reach their lowest levels in the mid-50s or so. The wind is from the east around 10 to 15 mph, with gusts over 30 mph. Confidence: Medium

Tonight: The rains continue at night. It may be mostly drizzle filled with some fog. The lows are in the lows and mid-40s. The wind continues to blow around 10 to 15 mph, from the east and northeast. Confidence: Medium

Mother’s Day (Sunday): The positive side is that most or all of the rain is done until sunrise. We could see a few souls staying in the morning, but probably not many. Given that the average high for the date is 75, temperatures that struggle to exceed the low 50 for the highest are quite cold. Most of the day is in the 40’s, with a breeze, so plan to need layers if you’re out. Cloudbursts are possible before sunset. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow night: The clouds are probably too many to start the night, but we need to see a clearing over time. It’s pretty cool again. Temperatures range from about 40 to 45. Some typically cold places can reach 30. Confidence: Medium

With any luck, the sun returns Monday. I say with a little luck, because the same storm that confuses us over the weekend will hang in the sea in a slightly unpredictable way. So far, partly sunny conditions seem likely, which should help raise temperatures to around 60 – still well below normal. Confidence: Medium

This is the same general story about Tuesday. The low pressure area should be far enough from the shore to see a lot of sun. Temperatures reach 60 for high, and some places may reach 70. Confidence: Medium
