Fred Savage has been fired as executive producer and director of the reboot of ABC The Wonder Years after allegations of misconduct, 20th Television confirmed on Friday. Savage starred in the original 1988 series as a child and was the executive producer and director of the 2021 reboot, which has not yet been renewed for a second season. “We were recently briefed on allegations of misconduct by Fred Savage and, as is the policy, launched an investigation,” a 20th Television spokesman said. “After his graduation, it was decided to terminate his work as executive producer and director of The Wonder Years.” ABC and 20th Television did not provide further details about the investigation.
This is not the first time Savage has been accused of misconduct. Savage was previously charged with physical harassment on the set of The Grinder in 2018. That same year, Alley Mills, who played Savage’s mother in The Wonder Years, revealed that the show ended after six seasons due in large part to sexual contact a harassment lawsuit against Savage and his partner Jason Hervey. Savage has not yet released a statement about his dismissal from the restart of The Wonder Years.
