Greater Manchester: Firefighters are dealing with the huge fire in Oldham

FIREFIGHTERS dealt with a huge fire this morning in a commercial building in Oldham.

Fire crews were called in at a fire alarm in a building on Bari Street around 2.15am.

Ten fire engines from all over Manchester, as well as three aircraft and additional maintenance vehicles were also present at the scene.

The incident involved a commercial building that caught fire when firefighters arrived.

Firefighters used spools with hoses and nozzles to put out the fire.

Fire crews were still there at almost 6 a.m. and were expected to “deal with the incident for some time.”

People were “advised to avoid the area” and to “keep doors and windows closed” this morning.

At the time, the commander of the incident, the group’s manager, Ian Redfern, said: “In the early hours of the morning, we were called to report a fire in a commercial building in Oldham.

“Fire crews, who arrived quickly on the scene, are working hard to prevent the fire from spreading to neighboring buildings.

“We expect to deal with the incident for some time.

“Currently there are closed roads.

“People are advised to avoid the area and residents should keep their doors and windows closed.
