Bruno Fernandes says he received assurances about Manchester United’s future plans before signing an extension.
The 27-year-old signed a new and improved deal at Old Trafford last month, extending his stay by one year and receiving a significant salary increase.
Fernandes has established himself as a key player since joining Sporting in January 2020, but has yet to win major honors with the club and will not play in the Champions League next season.

United are mathematically unable to finish fourth in the Premier League after their humiliating 4-0 defeat by Brighton at the weekend, perhaps the lowest point of their season so far.
The embarrassing loss again raised huge questions about the club’s direction, but Fernandez reassured his supporters, insisting he would not sign a new deal if he did not have confidence in their long-term plans.
“I don’t want to talk about the future,” he told Sky Sports. “We still have one game this season and we have to win.
“I talked to the club about the future many times before signing my contract, because I think the future can be good, but obviously a lot of things need to be fixed, as we saw this season.”
