Saul ‘Canello’ Alvarez is eager for a rematch with WBA light heavyweight champion Dimitri Bivol after suffering a shocking defeat in his first match in Las Vegas on Saturday night.
Buffalo secured victory by unanimous decision – and the three judges won the 115-113 battle in his favor – to give Canello only the second loss of his career, nine years after his first by Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Canello stressed after the match that he wants another blow against Buffalo, with a rematch clause in the contract. He said, “Of course I do. It doesn’t end that way.” He later repeated this message on Twitter.
Translated from Spanish, Canello’s post read: “Boxing is like that. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, but always with your head held high.
“I am left with the great struggle we have offered to the people. We will fight again and we will win again.”

Buffalo also wants to face Canello once again. “Revenge? No problem. Let’s talk about a rematch, “he said.
“I took this battle because I just wanted the opportunity and I appreciate the opportunity. I’m ready for the rematch, I just want to be sure that I will win and now I’m being treated like a champion. “
As both fighters are on fire, Bivol’s promoter Andrei Ryabinski told Sky Sports: “I would say that the preparation process will take at least four to five months.
“The location of the battle is yet to be determined, but it will most likely be in the United States.
Alvarez, who returned to the heaviest weight of his career to fight for the 175-pound title, disagreed with the judges and said he thought he had lost a maximum of four or five rounds.
“I definitely didn’t lose the battle,” Alvarez said through an interpreter. “I think I got a little tired of the final rounds, but I felt good.”
With his victory in Saturday’s match, Bivol’s record improved to a perfect 20 wins in 20 battles, while Canello dropped to 57-2-2.
Canello previously won in the light heavyweight division, defeating Sergei Kovalev by knockout to win the WBO title in 2019, but Bivol proved too much for the Mexican fighter to overcome in his first match.
