Ten Torso 2022: Davenport Boys High School first crosses the line

The team from Davenport High School for Boys crossed the border first to complete the 60th stage of the Ten Tories. It was the first time since 2019 due to Covid-19, with more than 2,000 teenagers taking part in one of the biggest adventure events in England.

The teams completed routes of 35, 45 or 55 miles (56, 72 or 88 km) in Dartmoor. They used their navigational skills and carried all their food, water, bed linen and other essentials for the challenge, which included a Moorish night’s sleep.

The Devonport High School for Boys was the first to cross the line in the main event, with Torquay Boys’ High School being the first to cross the line in the 45-mile race.

Most of the teams that make up Ten Tors are from schools and youth groups from all over the Southwest. These include scout groups, sports and Rambler teams and cadet units of the armed forces, all of which have trained hard over the past few months and are ready to take on the challenge.

The army, which is leading the event with the support of the Royal Navy and the Royal Air Force, said it was “brilliant”. About 300 young people took part in the Jubilee Challenge for young people with special physical or educational needs.
