The UK Ministry of Defense said on Sunday that senior Russian officials had entered the battlefield in Ukraine amid Moscow’s ongoing invasion of the neighboring country.
In a Twitter thread, the British Ministry of Defense said that Russian top commanders are likely to take personal control of their operations, noting that they rarely delegate operational powers to their subordinates who have little or no leadership experience.
“Russian commanders rarely delegate operational powers to their subordinates, who in turn do not gain vital leadership experience,” the ministry said.
“However, it is unclear whether the presence of these commanders on the battlefield has led to an improved or changed operational concept,” the ministry added. “Wrong assumptions about planning and failures in sustainability continue to undermine Russia’s progress.
The ministry also said recent movements put senior officials at greater risk, adding that this could lead to more deaths among Russian soldiers.

“These problems are likely to continue, given the relative lack of experience in the operational command of officers promoted to the place of those killed,” the ministry concluded in its update.
The update comes when the ministry, along with Russia, celebrates the 77th anniversary of VE Day, also known as Victory Day in Europe, when Nazi Germany capitulated, ending World War II.
