How far would you go to try your youth – and how much would you be willing to spend.
For two men from Victoria, the answer is about 4,000 kilometers and more than $ 600.

“Some of the unique features are that they use canned mushrooms, which are a real taboo for most pizzerias, they want everything fresh,” said pizza fan and transit worker John Palmer.
“Another unique feature is that they cut pepperoni instead of round discs, so you are guaranteed to get a full bite of pepperoni at each bite. And the cheese is also different, it is made locally … and it gives it a very unique taste.

“Of course, the biggest variable is that it’s from my childhood, so of course it will take a favorite place in my taste buds.
Palmer grew up in Windsor, leaving at age 17 to join the Army. His colleague Nigel Couch emigrated to Canada in 2005, and Windsor was his first stop.
When the couple met at work, they bonded over the famous pie.

“We immediately started making a connection to Windsor Pizza. We’ve been talking for years about trying to bring Windsor pizza here, but the logistics were really challenging, “Palmer said.

It was not easy. Palmer said he had to call a number of pizzerias to find someone to make the deal over the phone.
He eventually found Antoninos Original Pizza, where he said employees agreed to bake in half, then freeze the pies and even coordinate with UPS to deliver them.
For that to happen, Palmer had to look for an old friend he hadn’t spoken to in Windsor in years to get them from the pizzeria to the courier.

While the pizza delivery of nearly 4,000 miles may sound extreme, it’s not uncommon for Windsor pizzerias.
It is known that people looking for a taste of home send them to Canada and the United States, while Antoninos said that an order was even fulfilled by someone in Dubai.
Despite the cost, both Palmer and Couch said they would not hesitate to place another order once they had filled their current pizza.
“I think I’ll have to talk to my wife about how much we’ll pay for it,” joked Couch, adding that the purchase was “worth every penny.”
“It’s like opening a bottle of good wine,” Palmer added.
“I would not suggest that it is profitable to send it from Windsor, it was more of an emotional decision.
