An anonymous donor pays $ 300,000 in debt to Texas students

Students at the University of Texas inauguration ceremony on Saturday learned they were debt-free after an anonymous donor paid the school, Wiley College said.

“You are debt-free. You don’t owe a penny to college. If you have balance, you have balance, “said the university president, applauding in a video tweeted by Wiley College in Marshall, Texas.

Approximately 100 graduates were informed that their total remaining balance of about $ 300,000 was taken care of by a donor who decided to keep their identities secret.

“We are constantly working with donors to help students in these ways so that they can begin their post-college experience with less debt,” said school president Herman J. Felton Jr.

“We are grateful for this anonymous donor who will help students pay their balances to Wiley College and help us achieve the institutional goals of graduating our students with little or no debt.”

Tuition at the historic Black University has been reduced to $ 17,500 a year in recent years – including tuition, fees, room and food – to give more students access to education, but some students still have a balance on graduation, the university said in a statement. .
