The United Brotherhood Of Carpenters collective agreement expired on May 1; The strike is for wages, the worker said
United Brotherhood Of Carpenters & Joiners Of America Local 2,486 workers – striking since Monday morning – were spotted with picket signs in front of the union’s office near the corner of Trunk Road and Boundary Road earlier today.
“It’s all about salaries,” a strike captain told SooToday.
Toronto Carpenters’ Union employee Mike York was not immediately available for comment or further details.
The workers are scattered in the Sault and Algoma area and are part of a larger area based in Sudbury, where carpenters and carpenters are also on strike.
Approximately 250 skilled traders from the United Brotherhood Of Carpenters & Joiners Of America are on strike in Sault.
About a dozen local projects have been affected by the strike.
The group’s collective agreement expires on May 1.
The group received some signals of support from passing motorists.
