Gas prices are rising again in Kenora

For the second time this week, the price of petrol in Kenora has jumped dramatically.

On Sunday (May 8, 2022), the price of gas rose by 6 cents per liter from 189.9 to 195.9 at three gas stations in Kenora. On Tuesday (May 2, 2022) residents saw a jump in prices from 182.9 to 189.9. Fuel prices were 182.9 in the previous two weeks. Prices are expected to level across the community in the coming days.

This is the highest average gas price ever in the Kenora region, dating back to 2008, according to GasBuddy records.

As of Sunday, in the Kenora neighborhood, the price of fuel in Dryden continues to be at a price of 189.9 cents per liter, in Sioux Lookout residents pay from 199.7 to 210.0. Red Lake reported a price of 209.9 cents per liter. Thunder Bay has a large price variation from 168.0 cents per liter to 193.9 cents per liter.

Beyond Manitoba’s Winnipeg border, gas prices range from 177.7 to 179.9.

The cities of White Rock and Vancouver in British Columbia are the most expensive gas prices in Canada with an incredible price of 217.4 on Sunday. The cheapest fuel price in Canada can be found in Leduc, AB at the low price of 149.9.

Ontario ranks fourth in Canada’s highest average fuel price, averaging 196.6 cents a liter. Newfoundland has the highest average gas price in Canada – 206.4 cents per liter, according to GasBuddy.

The Ontario government has introduced legislation that, if passed, will reduce the provincial gas tax by 5.7 cents per liter and the fuel tax by 5.3 cents per liter for six months from July 1, 2022.

Fuel prices were expected to rise by about 11 cents this month as fuel producers switch from winter to summer gasoline. Summer gasoline blends are typically used between April and September in Canada.
