Sir Keir Starmer is ready to promise to resign if fined for “beergate” as he resigns as a member of parliament for meetings on his political future.
A statement is expected around 4pm on Monday. This comes after a day of talks with his internal team on how to deal with the police investigation into potential violations of the Covid Act.
The Labor leader is under pressure to explain whether he would quit his job if police in Durham issued him a fixed notice of punishment for Curry and beer with Labor staff in the campaign last April, when the blockade measures were in place.
He canceled all his commitments to Monday’s diaries, including a speech to the Institute for Government think tank.
The Telegraph has learned that Sir Cair’s team has also canceled his planned appearance at a memorial service for James Brockenshire, a former Tory MP, early Monday morning.
The Labor leader was meeting with associates about his political future on Monday afternoon, when he was scheduled to attend an event at St. Margaret’s Church near Westminster Abbey.
