Iowa City, Iowa (KCRG) – An investigation is under way following a report of a potential shooting near the Veterans Hospital in Iowa City on Sunday.
At 4:59 p.m., the University of Iowa’s Department of Public Safety issued a warning from Hawk about the incident, saying there had been a report of gunfire and a man being injured in a medical education building located west of Newton’s campus. Road. A later update from the police shows that the incident happened east of the entrance of Highway 6 to the VA Hospital.
A man was taken to a nearby hospital to receive a gunshot wound, which Iowa police described as life-threatening.
Campus police later clarified that “the incident did not happen in the building or on the university property.” Authorities believe the suspects were no longer in the area by 6:25 p.m.
People were encouraged by officials to avoid the area, although Iowa City police said they did not believe there was a wider, more active public threat. Parts of Newton Road and US Highway 6 were closed due to the accident.
