Live news: Ukraine is waging a “two-world war”, says Zelensky

Russia’s war in Ukraine has revealed “shortcomings in its ability to strike precision-scale strikes,” the UK Ministry of Defense said in a recent intelligence briefing on the conflict.

The defense ministry tweeted Monday that because the war exceeded Russia’s pre-war expectations, its stockpile of precision weapons may have been “severely depleted.”

“This has necessitated the use of readily available but obsolete munitions that are less reliable, less accurate and easier to intercept,” the department said.

Russia will probably struggle to replace the precision weapons it has already used, the ministry added.

The Defense Ministry statement comes on the day Russia celebrates Allied victory in World War II, the day many analysts believe Russian President Vladimir Putin hoped he could declare victory after his country’s attack on Western Europe. neighbor on February 24.

Russia is holding its usual military parade in Moscow on Monday, while UK Defense Secretary Ben Wallace is due to speak about the war in a speech to a think tank.

The intelligence assessment states that at the beginning of its invasion, Russia “publicly promoted” its ability to perform surgical strikes and limit side damage.

“It states that therefore Ukrainian cities will be safe from bombing,” the ministry said.

However, the ministry added that this was not possible with the less accurate weapons currently in use.

“Russia has subjected Ukrainian cities to intense and indiscriminate bombing with little or no regard for civilian casualties,” the defense ministry said.
