More human remains found in Lake Mead, a week after the discovery of the body in a barrel – National

More human remains were found at Lake Mead in Nevada less than a week after a decomposed body in a barrel was found in a drought-stricken reservoir.

A witness found skeletal remains in Calville Bay in the Mead Lake National Recreation Area and told park rangers around 2pm on Saturday.

In a press release, the National Park Service said the investigation was ongoing and that the Clark County Medical Examiner was investigating the cause of death.

The remains were found just six days after the body of a shot man was found in a barrel on the shores of Lake Mead.

Homicide Lieutenant Ray Spencer told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that based on the shoes that were on the skeletal remains, they believe the murder probably took place somewhere between the mid-1970s and early 1980s.

Spencer told CNN that the barrel, discovered on May 1, would have been thrown hundreds of meters from shore, probably by boat, but because the lake has receded so much during that time, the area is now considered a shoreline.

Lake Mead and Lake Powell upstream are the largest man-made reservoirs in the United States, part of a system that provides water to more than 40 million people, tribes, agriculture and industry in Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming and across the southern border of Mexico.

The lake’s water level on Monday was the lowest level recorded for Lake Mead since the reservoir was filled in the 1930s, at about 1,052 feet above sea level.
