Moyes: The quick start helped us get back on the winning path

West Ham United could have been forgiven for delaying the disappointment of a semi-final defeat in Europe, but did not do so for a moment in their 4-0 win over Norwich City on Sunday.

And David Moyes was pleased with how many offensive intentions his players showed from the first hit on Carrow Road.

The manager told West Ham TV that the three points – which reinforce Irons’ desire to qualify directly for Europe in the league for the first time in a row – have been reduced in much of the turbulent start in Norfolk.

Said Benraha’s opening in the 12th minute came after an early period of prolonged pressure on Norwich’s goal and was followed by additional efforts by Michael Antonio and the Algerian again before half time, Jarod Bowen participated in all three.

And with Manuel Lanzini finishing the penalty shootout after halftime, Moyes was encouraged by the response from his players, who are now just three points behind sixth-placed Manchester United in the hand-to-hand table – and, most importantly, five ahead of eighth-placed Wolverhampton. Wanderers …

Victory helps put disappointment aside.

It was probably as much of a disappointment as any of us in football had in the middle of the week. Today’s victory helped.

I think the way we started the game is probably the reason we won the game so easily.

We stepped forward and started the game with really good speed and spirit.

The players dealt with Norwich early and the first goal gave us a good platform to go and win.

We are aware that we want European football again.

We try to stay there. We saw today as a really important match with two upcoming matches that are difficult.

Getting the three points today gives us a little leeway, but for us to try to catch Manchester United – and not be caught by the Wolverhampton Wanderers – is really important.

Said and Mick did [need their goals].

Let’s be honest, we probably had to score a lot more and we could probably play a lot better if I’m honest.

It wasn’t one of our best performances, but we did well enough to win the match.

Three of our players knocked a little [and came off].

Mick has a light tap on his thigh. Dawson took one in the calf, and Saeed’s could have been his ankle – I haven’t had a chance to see him yet – so I hope everyone’s fine. I don’t think they looked that serious.

It was great to see a guest full of West Ham fans.

I think the players deserve it. The players have done such a good job and the supporters are showing just that, supporting them in a way that acknowledges the efforts they have made.

They saw that their team won today quite comfortably and apparently also scored a few goals.

We achieved a good victory after a huge disappointment.

I hope we can continue.
