The Amazon update makes buying Kindle eBooks on Android much more annoying

If you have one of the best Amazon Kindle e-readers, but like to use your Android phone to buy books instead of navigating the device’s built-in store (and given how slow it is, we don’t blame you) , then we have got bad news for you.

As noted by Ars Technica, you can no longer buy Kindle ebooks through the Amazon app on Android phones – this was already the case on the iPhone, and now everyone else has to suffer as well.

Amazon is not modest about the reason for this, because when you try to buy an e-book through the shopping app, you are told that “this change keeps the app in line with the updated Google Play Store policies” – pointing the finger, there we are Amazon?

This is in connection with Google’s requirement, as of June 1, that all payments in the application go through Google Play – this means that the search engine giant receives a reduction in profits. Instead of handing over some of its money to Google, Amazon is obviously looking for some mutually guaranteed interruptions.

How to keep buying Amazon Kindle books

There is a solution to this problem, although strangely it has nothing to do with the actual Kindle application.

No, if you go to the Amazon website in your web browser, you can still send your purchased books to your Kindle – it takes a little longer than just using the Amazon app, but it still works.

Of course, you can alternatively use the store on your Kindle or on your computer, but personally we think that our smartphone is the fastest option for browsing books to send to our reader.

The weird thing is that Amazon’s own Kindle app (which you can use to read your ebooks on a smartphone or tablet) doesn’t allow you to send things to a Kindle ereader – maybe Amazon doesn’t think anyone who has a Kindle will read in the app, and vice versa.

Unless reversing the Google Play Store payment option is reversed, it looks like the Amazon app won’t be your way of buying ebooks in the foreseeable future.
