The Weather Network – Snow accumulation is possible in southern Alberta on Monday

Sunday, May 8, 2022, 7:57 p.m. – Some areas in Alberta see the potential for snowfall on Monday as temperatures drop.

Although we are entering the second week of May, parts of Alberta are once again facing a forecast of snowfall that has the potential to prevail.

The much-needed rain fell in Red Deer, Calgary and the foothills on Sunday, but Alberta’s typical winter mix is fast approaching these big cities. A depression running south introduces cold northern air, which can lead to temperatures dropping close to 0 ° C.

Falling waves around the city of Calgary are likely during the trip on Monday morning, which could create dangerous conditions for drivers. However, there is considerable uncertainty with the forecast and there are many scenarios.

The crash scenario involves higher temperatures with waves melting on contact with the surface or a narrow strip of snow remaining east or west of Calgary.

Alternatively, the high-resolution models hint at a potential boom scenario, with lower surface temperatures and the possibility of locally heavy snow strips. A higher chance of snow conditions is expected between Banff and Calgary. Accumulating snowfall of up to 10-15 cm at the foot and 5-10 cm is possible if a fixed lane is found above QE2.

A slight difference of even 1 ° C colder could allow a few inches of short snowdrifts on Monday morning on QE2, from Red Deer to Calgary, and south to High River.

Drivers need to take extra time for the morning trip and prepare for slippery and fast-changing driving conditions on Mondays.
