Former President Trump called his former defense minister “light” and “Rhino” in response to a “60 Minutes” interview that included a series of shocking allegations about the former commander-in-chief.
Former Pentagon Mark Esper is releasing a book about his time in the Trump administration this week and in the first excerpts accuses the former president of wanting to shoot at the feet of racial justice protesters and launch rockets in Mexico to crush cartels.
In response to CBS questions about the interview, Trump disputed these and other allegations, accusing Esper of failing as defense minister.
“Mark Esper was weak and completely ineffective, so I had to lead the army,” Trump said in a 60-minute statement.
“Mark Esper was stiff, desperate not to lose his job. He would do anything I asked, so I called him Dusper. He was light and figure skater and I realized that very early. “
In a statement, Trump also denied allegations that Esper had blocked consideration of using the Uprising Act, which could deploy active forces to deal with civil unrest.
“This is fake news,” Trump said of the reports. “The fact is that I did not need to refer to the act and I never did.”
The former president said “no comment” in response to a question about whether he could “attack drug cartels with missiles”.
