The last two fights of Saturday’s UFC 274 event at the Footprint Center in Phoenix provided unusual post-battle stories for a variety of reasons.
In the main event, Charles Oliveira (33-8 MMA, 21-8 UFC) won a submission in the first round over Justin Getzhi (23-4 MMA, 6-4 UFC) in an exciting light battle. However, he did not go to the Bronx with gold because he lacked weight, which caused the belt to loosen. However, Oliveira will remain an important part of the title, as it will be half of the next match for the title.
Meanwhile, the main headliner saw Carla Esparza (19-6 MMA, 10-4 UFC) regain the title in the straw category after more than seven years with a split victory over Rose Namayunas (11-5 MMA, 9-4 UFC) in one of the lowest title fights in the history of the promotion.
