NASA astronaut Jessica Watkins is seen floating above the Earth here in the dome of the International Space Station, which provides an amazing observation post for those who live and work on the space station.
The dome is a dome-shaped module with six windows facing the Earth. It was installed in 2010 and is a favorite place for astronauts to make some observations of the Earth and quiet introspection. The small module is designed to monitor operations outside the station such as robotic activities, approaching vehicles and space travel.
But the direct view of the Earth through the windows is what astronauts enjoy the most. Those who have the incredible opportunity to see the Earth from space often report that the view gives them a sense of awe, unity and clarity. This perspective-changing experience is known as the Review Effect of the book of the same name, published in 1987 by space philosopher Frank White.

Watkins currently serves as an ISS mission specialist and is part of the SpaceX Crew-4 mission, which launched on April 27, 2022. Watkins is the first black woman to serve a long-term mission on the space station.

“We have reached this stage, this moment in time, and the reason we can get to this moment is because of the legacy of those who came before to allow this moment,” Watkins said in an interview before the launch. “Besides, acknowledging this is a step towards a very exciting future. So to be a part of this is certainly an honor. ”
