Mathieu Flory does not want re-election in Rideau-Vanier

Rido-Vanie count. Mathieu Flory has decided not to run in the municipal elections this fall.

“It’s time to find new ways to contribute to the future of our city – at least for now,” he wrote in French in a statement sent to a mailing list on Monday night.

Born in Ottawa, he was a former student at Francojeunesse Primary School, Franco-Cité Catholic High School and the University of Ottawa and was elected City Councilor in 2010, 2014 and 2018.

“I will not be far away, I will not go anywhere. “Ottawa is my hometown and I am determined to help shape our exceptional community in new ways,” he wrote.

Fleury chairs the board of directors of Ottawa Community Housing and is a member of transportation and public safety committees. He is also a member of the Ottawa Sports Council.

Big changes in the council

Elsewhere around the council table, Mayor Jim Watson, Jean-Clautier of Alta Vista, Ian Harder of Barrhaven, Keith Egley of Knoxdale-Maryvale and Scott Moffat of rural area 21 – soon to be renamed – are reluctant to be re-elected.

And as Diane Dean and Catherine McKenney run for mayor, the Gloucester-Southgate and Somerset races will also be barred.

There will also be a new advisor for the newly created Barrhaven East division this year.

Taken together, there will be at least nine new faces at the council table later this fall.

The municipal elections are on October 24.
